Sinusoidal current source \(I_s = 0.1\ \text{A}\) (peak) excites parallel RLC | Observe how resistor, inductor, and capacitor branch current magnitudes change with frequency
Marker point displays branch current values at the corresponding frequency
* At parallel resonance \(I_L = I_C\), total current \(I_s\) flows entirely through resistor \(R\), \(I_R\) is maximum
* Click the button to move the purple marker line to the resonant frequency point
Current source peak \(I_s = 0.1\ \text{A}\), each branch current is actual peak value
Current source \(I_s = 0.1\angle0^\circ\) applied to parallel RLC:
Parallel admittance \(Y = \dfrac{1}{R} + \dfrac{1}{j\omega L} + j\omega C\), terminal voltage \(V = I_s / Y\).
Branch currents: \(I_R = V/R,\ I_L = V/(j\omega L),\ I_C = V \cdot j\omega C\).
At resonance \(\omega_0 L = 1/(\omega_0 C)\), admittance is minimum (equal to \(1/R\)), voltage is maximum, \(I_R = I_s\), \(I_L = I_C = Q I_s\).
• Resonant frequency \(f_0 = \dfrac{1}{2\pi\sqrt{LC}}\), same as the series form.
• Parallel quality factor \(Q = R\sqrt{\dfrac{C}{L}} = \dfrac{R}{\omega_0 L} = \omega_0 R C\).
• At resonance, resistor current equals source current \(I_s\), inductor/capacitor current is \(Q\) times the source current.
• Click "Mark Resonant Frequency" to position the purple marker line at \(f_0\), intuitively comparing branch current relationships at the resonant point.
